At its 2024 Made by Google event, the search engine giant unveiled the new Pixel Buds Pro 2.
Amid controversy over Samsung’s new products Galaxy Buds 3 Series They look like a clone of the Apple AirPods, but it’s worth mentioning here: Google’s Pixel Buds Pro 2 don’t look like a replica of the popular Apple earbuds. The earbuds have a different design, and unlike the AirPods Pro and Galaxy Buds 3, there are no visible stems.

Google seems to be going all in on the AI part of its new wireless earbuds, as the company says this is the first time the powerful Tensor chip has been used in earbuds. Google says the Tensor A1 chip, specially developed to power Google AI processing, can process voice “90 times faster than the speed of sound.”
This means that the Pixel Buds Pro 2’s active noise cancellation with Silent Seal 2.0 feature can cancel out twice as much noise as the original Pixel Buds Pro, providing clearer audio during phone calls.

Google’s Tensor chip also powers another new AI-powered feature in the Pixel Buds Pro 2: conversation detection. Essentially, Google says, users no longer need to take their earbuds off to have an actual conversation. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 will detect when you start to speak and will automatically pause any music you’re playing and switch to transparency mode. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 will also detect when you’ve finished talking and will automatically resume audio in the earbuds without you having to do anything.
According to Google, the new Pixel Buds Pro 2 will be able to automatically switch between devices based on user behavior, making audio switching in general much easier.

Returning to the design of the Pixel Buds Pro 2, Google claims that these latest earbuds are the “most comfortable, secure-fitting earbuds ever.” They’re also 27 percent smaller than the previous generation. Google managed to make these earbuds lighter while also improving battery life.
Tired of your earbuds popping out of your ears? Pixel Buds Pro 2 also feature new adjustable rotating stabilizers to keep the earbuds in place while running or other activities.
There are a few caveats, though: Some features of the Pixel Buds Pro 2 require a Google account, which shouldn’t be an issue for most people. However, some of the specific AI-powered features require an Android device (specifically, a Pixel 7 or newer), so for Pixel 6 and iPhone users, for example, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 probably aren’t the best choice.
Pre-orders for the Pixel Buds Pro 2 begin tomorrow for $229.99, and they’ll be in stores on September 26th.
