Google’s new “Pixel Screenshots” can search your screenshot library, and it’s the most useful AI feature of 2024.

If you’re like me, you probably have a huge library of screenshots that contain everything from funny social media posts to saved order confirmations.

But scrolling through that vast collection of screenshots One It’s hard to see the saved photos. So Google has released a new screenshot app that is included in all the new Pixel 9 series devices, including the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Google explained how to use the screenshot app. This may be one of the most useful AI tools I’ve seen this year.

Google’s new ‘Pixel Screenshots’ uses AI search to help you find your screenshots

At its Made by Google event, the search engine just released its Pixel 9 devices, and to coincide with that, Google also released a new screenshot app, which uses an on-device AI that Google calls “Gemini Nano” to generate a title and summary for each screenshot.

For example, at a recent press event, a Google representative showed me a screenshot of an article detailing how to dip-dye your hair to achieve vibrant colors: As I mentioned earlier, the Screenshot app displayed the headline and summary of the hair guide.

(Although Google representatives didn’t point this out, I did notice an “Add Notes” option, which I assume means that users will be able to add their own annotations on top of the AI-generated summary.)

The Google representative then demonstrated that if users want to find screenshots they’ve saved, they can do so using the search bar at the bottom of the app.

For example, when you type the word “boots” into the search bar, the app now displays screenshots with images of boots taken during the user’s shopping journey.

Surprisingly, instead of just typing your query, you can tap the microphone to talk Enter your request into the search bar. For example, a Google representative might ask, “What’s the Wi-Fi code at Jared’s house?”

And after searching for the user’s screenshots, the search was able to show the appropriate screenshots. and Bring Jerrod’s Wi-Fi credentials to the foreground There’s no need to dig too much.

Just when you thought screenshots couldn’t get any better, Google has announced that there will be suggested actions for certain screenshots. For example, if you save a screenshot with an address in it, a “Search on Maps” button will appear, allowing you to view directions via Google Maps.

Moreover, the screenshot app allows you to set reminders for yourself. If you have saved a screenshot of an article but are busy and don’t have time to read it, you can tap the alarm button to remind yourself to read the screenshot. This is a great feature.
